Born in Penang, Malaysia, Jimmy Choo is perhaps best known for his handmade shoes for women. Learning the craft from his father, he made his first shoe at 11. He later moved to London to study, and he opened his first shoe shop in a converted hospital building in 1986. After his designs began generating a buzz, he co-founded his eponymous fashion label in 1996 with Tamara Mellon, a Vogue magazine editor.
